Improving Life Threatening Medical Conditions With Gastric Bypass

<

Being overweight is not just a vanity issue. It causes many major health problems.

These illnesses can be improved or even cured by adopting a healthy weight. As more and more fad diets fail the obese person, people are looking to drastically change their lifestyle for the betterment of their health. Gastric bypass surgery is becoming the weight loss option of many and is improving their health.

Obstructive Sleep apnea is a serious life threatening condition where the throat closes off during sleep and prevents air from entering the lungs. It is characterized by loud snoring, choking, and gasping for air. Overweight people have excess weight in their necks which causes an overcrowding in the oral airway. Weight loss surgery helps the obese patient lose the extra weight and many times relieves the symptoms of sleep apnea. Ironically, sleep apnea has been adversely linked to obesity and weight controlling hormones. Once the sleep apnea is managed, the hormones stabilize and weight tends to be lost easier.

Insulin resistance and diabetes occurs when the body cannot correctly use the insulin the body produces. This is a problem because insulin helps convert sugars to fuel. Too little insulin in the body can cause ketoacidosis and high blood sugar which can lead to a diabetic coma. Losing weight will bring down the amount of insulin the body needs, thus regulating the blood sugar. The gastric bypass diet is also much healthier than the typical diet consumed by overweight people and will help regulate insulin and sugar.

Heart conditions can be managed and possibly alleviated with weight loss. Extra pounds puts a huge strain on the heart. It can cause arrhythmias, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Studies show that resting heart rates lower and the recovery times post exercise improve dramatically after losing unwanted pounds. Cholesterol and triglycerides have also been shown to lower after weight is taken off. If the heart is healthy enough to withstand gastric bypass surgery, it will improve functionally as weight is lost. If it is over sized, many times it's mass will reduce to normal, arrhythmias will cease, and blood pressure will stabilize.

Joint pain is not a serious or life threatening condition, but I've opted to include it because of it's serious nature. Psychologically, extended pain and mobility issues can be devastating. Uncontrolled pain can lead to depression which could end in death. Gastric bypass and lap band surgery can help lose the excess weight that is causing the joint flare ups.

Losing weight doesn't just make you look better and feel better. It makes for a healthier you inside as well as out. Heart conditions improve with weight loss. Diabetes is sometimes alleviated. Sleep apnea is often cured. Joint pain is lessened and many times disappears along with the pounds. If you are overweight and you have any serious health conditions, weight loss surgery may save your life.
